1997 Dodge Avenger ES

When I turn the air controls and choose the windshield defroster, the air conditioning light comes on. This does not happen when I choose heat to come out the vents or the floor. I can also hear the air conditioning compressor come on. Because of this I rarely use the defroster and get a lot of interior fog up plus cool air comes out of the front vents. Is there anything I can do to stop this? The air conditioning button is always on the off position.

This is somewhat normal ...
It kicks in to dehumidify the air , depending on outside air temps

 

i don't really see an issue here. isn't it the usual fog inside the car, u talking about ?

 

it IS normal. For the A/C to engage. when defrost is selected.
