Default 2012 auto starter can or cannot

My daughter just bought a 2012 sxt plus. We asked the dealer if it was ok to put in an after market remote starter in the car. It will be from a long standing reputable company. He said he wouldn't. This sounds like bull to me. Most people get remote starters for their cars. I haven't heard of any problems. Anyone care to coment?

it'll work, but the problem is with waranty. I saw plenty of aftermarket remote start system screw up the Security system, do some research. If you ever run into a problem with the Security system preventing you from starting the car, your dealership can void your waranty, and become a big headache on your part.
I had a customer came in because somehow the aftermarket cause the computer to erased the original keys, that one was a big headache for the dealership and the customer due to waranty.
and some of the problem is simply because the installer did a poor job.
I recommend to just get a Mopar one for a peace of mind. tho a little more expensive.
the Mopar one comes with 2 extra Keys, and directly bolt on. No extra wires running all over the place. Most dealership would get it installed for around $500. And of course, they are waranty approved.

Overall, it is your car, you can do whatever you want with it. But since she spent $20k for a car, why not $200 more to get it right compare to aftermarket? in the long run, you will find the Factory system save u a lot more money.

Drj,

I agree with Steak. The first questions I ask when I hear of people with starting issues, alarm issues, or key issues is do they have remote start and who installed it? Do a forum search of remote start and judge for yourself.
