Default 2009 Avenger, Change Oil Indicator

Hi all,

First time poster. Warning, I am no car enthusiast but I do love my Avenger.

I've put about 9k miles on her, bought 6months ago with around 50k miles and have changed the oil a couple times.

1) Oil indicator came on after an initial 1,500 miles or so. Went to Jiffy and had them do standard Pennzoil.
2) Drove on that about 2,850ish miles and the indicator came on. Bc it wasn't exactly 3k, I began to think my oil sensor had some level of intelligence. Went back to Jiffy, this time I had them do a Pennzoil synthetic blend to get more mileage between oil changes.

Well now I'm a little past 5k since the change and the thing hasn't come on yet. I don't want to push it much further for fear of damaging my car, but if my sensor is intelligent I can just wait til it comes on.

Who can expand upon my suspicions?

Thanks!

JLV,

The recommended oil change intervals on your vehicle is 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. While this time and mileage limit should not be exceeded, the oil change indicator is based on your driving habits and conditions. See below from the owners manual.

Oil Change Required

Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change
indicator system. The Oil Change Required message will
flash in the EVIC display for approximately five seconds
after a single chime has sounded to indicate the next
scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change
indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon
your personal driving style.
