Default 2009 2.4 avenger runner positioning sensor problen

Hello, I have a 2009 avenger. It's been throwing codes p2004 and p2017. After removing the manifold and sensor and thoroughly cleaning it, I was hoping it would fix the problem. The p2004 code went but the P2017 was a hard code so I had to remove and replace the runner positioning sensor completely. The p2017 code is now clear but the p2004 code is now back on. After much research i am lead to believe that i need to flash the pcm to get the computer updated and code to stay cleared.. is this a common thing? Is flashing it gonna solve the problem? Or are there other suggestions before forking out 175 to have the dealer plug into the car? I dont know squat about the computer part of cars.. so I'll take any suggestion s I can get..thanks in advance...

Sandy

Welcome to the forum, Sandy.
Are you sure that the runner control is actually functioning? Were the butterfly valves manually checked while it was apart?
