Default key, chips and fobs

Do all the keys have chips in them? Is it possible to just make a duplicate from the key taken out of the fob?

Yes you can have unchipped key cut from the chipped one.
I didn't want to carry these huge things incase I locked
my daily use key in or lost it,I had the dealer cut a straight key
which is thin enough to fit the keyholder in my wallet.
I bought one of those realestate agent locks (the one that
holds the house key) put my spare chipped key in it and secured
it under the hood locked around a steel part. Now if I lock myself out
or lose daily key I use the unchipped to get in the car, open the hood
and open the combo lock to retrieve my other chipped key.
DON'T try to use the unchipped key to drive the car.

Ok, so I eased on down to my dealership for an oil change and whatnot. While there I decided to check on another key. I have only 1 one ignition key. They cut me a door key for free since I got the car there, but the guy tells me that there is no fob-less key for the ignition. He says the only way to get another ignition key is to buy the whole transponder/fob/transmitter with key for about 250 plus programming..........unless someone knows of a cheaper way to get another key for the ignition, I suppose I will be glad I got roadside assistance. Seriously, prices like that for a key have to be against the Geneva Convention, morals, or decency.

I have one of these. It is shipped without the bulky remote. I bought one for all 3 of my Dodges. 07 Grand Caravan, 08 RAM and 09 Caliber.
I programmed them myself since I have 2 keys to each. The dealer should be able to program this key so that you will have 2 that work the ignition.

I had mine cut at Walmart for the price of a standard key. $1.50 or so.
They all start and run the vehicles with no problems. Beats $250 for sure!!

This guy is a great seller, I buy all of my keys from him.

So then I can get this blank and have it copied to my ignition or the door key and then have the dealer program it? Awesome.

This is all true. Dealer said $5 for the cut and $45 for the programming. Obviously overpriced for a simple procedure, but better than 250!!! Thanks bigtsr and lxman1.
