I just purchased an 08 dodge caliber used and of course didn't drive at night until I owned it my question is if there is supposed to be lights on the 3 control ***** when interior lights are illiuminated? I would imagine so but i dont have any so I wanted to make sure they are supposed to first and then any suggestions i was thinkin maybe fuse not sure where the fuses are but i havnt looked yet either.

Yes each of the 3 seperate controls are lit when the headlight/parking
position is selected on the left/turn signal stalk.Make sure the brightness
control on the stalk is turned to max.The control unit is lit with LEDs and
is removable by popping of the center bezel and removing 4-7mm screws.
Possibly someone has had it apart and the plug in the back is poorly
connected,a fuse would probably give you other indications such as
other lights not working.

Default Another thing about the controls lighting up

Yes the brightness is all the way up so im guessing there is another problem. Also another thing that is weird. When i dont have the lights turned on from the stalk as you said it is called and i click on the rear defrost button or any of the 3 (air cond, rear defrost etc) the little yellow light comes on to show it is on. When i turn on the headlights or parking lights those little yellow lights no longer work on the controls. So I never get backlighting but was at least getting the yellow lights to show the rear defrost but that goes off with headlights turned on. Thanks for your input i was thinking too that maybe the bulb in there is blowin i had that happen in a car i used to own so it is most likely not the fuse? Since all other dash lights are working?

Well this is a funny problem that I have not seen posted
before and I have been a regular on different Caliber resources
for almost 4 yrs.
My best guess and that's all it is-either the control for brightness
in the stalk is bad or the TIPM(totally integrated power module)
the unit under the hood in which the fuses are located is having a fit.
The TIPM is actually a monitoring computer which can effect many
electrical functions and sometimes needs to be reprogrammed/replaced.
Dealer visit would confirm this.

It almost acts like a bad ground in that area, but bigtsr is probably right.
