Could a new fuse box cause the car to throw errors?
Hi everyone.
A few weeks ago the drivers side headlight went out on our 2007 Caliber. I took it to my guy, and it turns out the fuse box needed to be replaced. They found a used one put it in, and the light worked (yes!). But the check airbag light came on, the mechanic told me it was probably an erroneous error code and it should reset in a day. Today my wife drove the car to the car and the check engine light came on. Is this the fuse box dying? Something else breaking? Or could this just be error lights coming on because some major repairs had just taken place?

I think you took it to the wrong person this time.
First of all, I doubt the Fuse Block (TIPM) needed to be replaced. On a Caliber, When a headlight bulb goes out, you replace the bulb, you HAVE to have chrysler enhanced scanner to erase the DTC(means tell the computer you replaced the bulb), or else the light will remain dead!!!
second, Ok, you found a Used Tipm, good. But after you installed it, you HAVE to reconfigurate it to match with the other computer on your car's network. The fuse box is not just a fuse box, it is a computer with fuse on top of it.
for example, you bought a new Video card for your computer, you put it in, it does NOT work until you install the Software that comes with the Video card, or else ur computer can crash.
Most newer Cars nowaday works the same way.
What you can do now:
A. go to the dealership.
B. Go to ur mechanic and tell him to put the old fuse box back, you might find everything start working normally again.

You can swap a TIPM from another LIKE car. HOWEVER, The VIN cannot be changed and if the junker had different equipment or is another year model those lights will NEVER go away. You'll always have a VIN/MISMATCHED DTC either way.
And YES, a headlamp not working can be a faulty TIPM. 4 power outputs from TIPM to low/high beam. It's not super commoin but I have run into it a few times. I know it sucks but it's true.
