Default 2010 Caliber SXT overheating

Fans not kicking on at all. Replaced blown fuse a week or so ago, it is blown again. Not sure what to do now. Anyone know how I can just wire the fans up to a switch I can flip to turn them on? Or know where I can start looking at least? I cannot afford to have it in a shop for a week or so to have them track down a short.

I am very car dumb, have looked all over for wiring harness diagrams for the fans, but found nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check the relay and make sure the fan motors are not shorted.

You can't afford to blow your engine up either....

Can you turn the fan by hand? Don't try to get too deep and mess up one of the computers. Pay someone to diagnose it. It's just a fan circuit, it's not like it's an intermittent electrical issue.

I was able to turn the fans by hand today, dual fan chassis. Is there a way to bypass the relays temporarily just to test if that is the problem. Also, where are they relays? I cannot find any locations for them online. I was able to get the service manual for a 2007 Caliber that has wiring diagrams, but does not show locations.

Again, sorry for my supidity with cars, I have been an IT guy for years, never got into messing with cars at all.

I did read to check some kind of wiring under the battery to make sure it was not grounded out, going to check that this weekend.

Thanks for the replies.

The relays will be in a fuse box in the engine compartment.

Ok, so, I just stopped by and picked up a new fuse to test. Car off, put in fuse, turned on with air, fans kicked on for about 3 minutes, then blew fuse again. We were watching it and a little bit of smoke trickled up from near the drivers side fan when the kicked off. Didn't smell like burning plastic or anything, kinda hard to describe.

Not sure if that helps anything to diagnose it. He hooked up the odb scanner, or whatever it is called, didn't get any codes.

Sounds like a bad fan motor.

Well, crap, on the upside though, hopefully a not so costly fix. I think I can get some help to handle that.

I really appreciate your help

Probably pick one up at a junk yard for not much. Pretty easy to change out.

Thought about that.

Tried something else, disconnected the drivers side fan, replaced the fuse again, took it for a drive with the air on. Blew the fuse again and had some smoke rising up from the hood, couldn't see anything burnt on the wiring or anything, not sure where it came from. Definately not antifreeze smell though. Might do the same thing with the passenger side tomorrow to see if it works or not. I'm spent dealing with it tonight though, lol.
