The soft rubber has been eaten away by the elements. I had ours replaced under warranty because the rubber was curling up over the rear door where yours is missing. I know they are available from the dealer. You could ask a local body shop if there are any other local suppliers that may be able to get them.
I would highly recommend that you occasionally treat the replacements with something such as Mothers "Back to Black" or the new Armor All stuff that is good for 100+ car washes, supposedly. I like the Armor All stuff. I use it on the black trim on all of my vehicles.
They are just held in my clips. You can use a trim removal tool to pop them up without damaging the paint. Not too hard. I watched the guy at the dealer change mine in about 15 minutes.
