Dodge Set for Marketing Launch of All-new 2007 Caliber

There are really only two of these that I feel are of poor taste. The mooning dog, and the copier. My point is dc's record on risky ads is not that great. Remember the concorde ad that got pulled? Or how about the set of three durango "size" ads that got pulled. The company wasted over 15 million on those ads combined. How about the lingerie bowl ? 5 million wasted on that one. No I don't hate the company, I just hate to see it throw more money away due to the stupidity of the ad company. This is a "family" brand. That is your target audience, most of them don't want to see this. As dc has been told before.

The one on the copier, how is that in bad taste? Its based on a joke that is years upon years old. The whole copying the butt thing, it does not show anything, no Caliber booty, nothing like that. Its just a play on a joke that people who are in the 20-35 bracket will get and it will stick with them. They have done this gag on the Simpsons, and several other shows that air during pre-bedtime hours, and those usually involve showing the resulted rear-ends.
As for the dog one, give me a break part two. Its a dog with his rear facing out. It does not show anything you dont see when a dog walks down the street, his tail is down, and he isnt flipping you off.
How is that offensive in any way.
I seriously am offended by the fact that people still get so uptight over nothing and let the bigger problems in the world fly by without a second thought.

I am sorry, but I think you need to relax a bit. If you are truly offended by those then you should be added to my list of people that ruin things for everyone else because they cant take a joke.

Very well said VulnoX!! [sm=exactly.gif][sm=icon_cheers.gif]
I enjoyed these commercials too! Who wants the same boring car commercial of a car driving to the top of a mountain and "posing"?
My point is track record. DC's risky ads have yet to pay off. So why continue? Do I find offense in these ads, no. But the public may. If it was your employer, (as it is mine) that throws millions away (of shareable profit) at iffy ads you might get a bit testy as well.

Joe these ads are no where near anything that would get pulled off the air. I dunno WTF you are reacting like this for... [&:]

Joe is just upset that instead of getting his 50 bucks they are using it to try to sell cars.

Yeah because showing a dogs *** is a good way to sell a car.[&:] Lets hope I'm wrong, and these ads do well for the caliber. And no Nick its more like 1500 bucks is what I should have got. Lets hope these little cars sell better than everything else we are selling right now!
Joe
as of 8/05 the Chrysler group alone had 86,000 workers. now lets assume everyone would get 1500. that would equal 129 mil dollars extra which they didn't distribute. i highly doubt they spent 129 million on those commercials. it was probably closer to 10mil. so divide that 10 mil by 86000 workers that means they are only shorting you $116.28. now 116 buck is little to give up to help keep your company in business.

You are right because although I like a commercial that gives a good laugh, I hate it when I am not told any important information about the product in the process. I have not yet watched the ads, although I plan to, but I doubt they highlight all the good features of the Caliber in them.
On the other hand, Chrysler is not taking any money away from people to do ads. Every organization in this country, from the local store to the Federal Government has a budget. Sometimes these are minor like it would be for a local store, and sometimes they are well detailed, like it would be for Chrysler or the Gov.
If Chrysler is putting out ads for the Caliber, its coming from the Marketing budget, which is pre-planned. The budget for the Caliber commercials has probably been in the works for a year or better, thats just how companies work. They also dont just shoot a commercial and have it on the air overnight, these have probably been in planning and production for quite a while.
The chances of these commercials actually having taken anything from you is slim, because it is more likely that Dodge took money from other vehicles advertising and put it towards the Caliber.
Other than that, commercials do win over people by staying with people. The Caliber ads make people talk, I mean, what are we doing right now. If someone did not know anything about the Caliber, saw the ad, and because of the humor, or even if they thought it was raunchy, it will stick with them and they might just go to Dodge's site and see what the fuss is all about. Then a few days later, they test drive it, and then holy cow, they buy it.
That is $116 bucks or better back in DCX's pocket because they did the ad and that person did not see an ad for a Pontiac Vibe instead.
I thought the fairy one was funny...that one sticks in my head. That's the only one I've seen since my son owns the TV nowadays.
