Luv my Caliber
In Jan 06 I purchased a honda civic hybrid as a commuter car. I've read some posts on here questioning the quality of the Caliber compared to the japanese cars and i for one will never buy japanese again. I traded the civic for my caliber sxt and am not regreting it at all. The Honda rode harsh, rattled and could'nt maintain a line. Wandered all over the lane like a bike in a rain groove. I was only getting 39-40 mpg, which is not bad but no way near the advertised 51. The caliber is getting 31 @ 65-70. The trade off in interior comfort for me ( I'm 53 yrs old, 6'2" ) is worth the loss I i've taken on fuel mileage and the trade. The Honda seats were not comfortable... even for my 5'1" girlfreind. Yes the plastic work on a Honda is prolbably state of the art, but when you are constntly looking for rattles, it can drive you nuts. The caliber feels like, RIDES like, a bigger American car which i personally like. Sure it looks Quirky which is one of the things i luv about the caliber and it can use some more padding on the interior armrest and center console. but its got character which is what drove me nuts about the civic. Just another cookie cutter japanese car. Yeah i really like my caliber and my ten year old thinks it's the coolest thing since Geoff Rowley.
Welcome Welcome!
I know what you mean about the Honda seats not being so comfortable. My parents had a couple of Honda products over the years and always felt the seats where too flat (especially compared to those in DCX vehicles they drove). Sounds like the Caliber is a good move for you!
You said you like the size and 'feel' of the bigger car. I'm assuming the mileage was an important factor here as well. What else drew you to the Caliber versus something else from the DCX stable or other manufacturers? Where there certain features you where looking for.
You ten year old has good taste too. Let's make a Dodge family out of ya!
