Default Caliber Click

I just found this site and think it's great. Haven't had time to go through the whole thing yet, but was wondering if anybody else was getting the Caliber click. The click you get when you shut off the engine, and it sounds like the muffler cooling down? It's not a major problem, just a little annoying when I'm showing it off to someone. I'd certainly appreciate any input on this.

Ummm...all cars make clicking or ticking noises when their hot and you shut them off. Its just the materials cooling off, like the muffler, catalytic converter, etc... To make some people even more nervous, the 2 new cars I've had stink when their new, almost like a burning smell for the first few times you drive it.

I've had my Caliber for one month now. I have experienced the Caliber click, not only after shut off, but during my drive. From reading other postings on this forum as well as others, this appears to be a very common occurrence. I have not discussed it with my dealer as of yet, but will if it continues at my first oil change. Some people are saying it's simply the exhaust materials breaking in and expanding. I hope it stops soon, it's loud at times.

Thanks Dianicess, I listened today with the stereo off, and I too have the click during my drive. I've had my Caliber for about a month also. I've heard other cars make slight clicking and ticking noises before, but this is really loud and noticeable. Let me know if yours goes away. So far, this is the ONLY thing I would complain about- I love my Caliber. I'll write more about it later.

This is a common annoyance with all calibers. From what I've learned from the grapevine some people claim the noise goes away after around 6k miles. Others claim thier dealer told them it was a faulty resonator pipe. All I know is that the noise is annoying as hell and I can't wait for it to dissapear.. if it doesn't I'm gonna be all over the service people till they can think something up to fix it.

I test drove the same Caliber twice, I did not hear the "Caliber Click". Maybe I had the radio on too loud?
