Can anyone measure the rear cargo area floor and also height of the opening?

Rear seats up - 18.5 cubic feet
Rear seats folded - 47.3 cubic feet
Trunk/Cargo Area Lift Over Height - 27.6 cubic inches

I take it your plan to put a sound system in your Caliber, or something else?

 

Just want to know how much room, I already have the cubic feet, but what I need is inches wide and deep and height of the opening.

Let me know if anyone can measure this for me.

The area is a bit tough to measure, as the opening curves a bit, the rear seats recline, there are indentations on the sides, etc. However, here are some measurements that hopefully will answer your questions:

The opening is roughly 27" tall 3' wide. (the curves of the opening make this hard to measure. If you try to put a box that's 27" tall and 3" wide in, the corners will most likely rub/catch)
The rubber cargo area is 3 ft deep, but the top comes in.
The smallest span across the cargo area is roughly 39"
The largest span is roughly 4' (there's a little nook)

So, if you don't want to jeopardize rear seating by folding them down, the biggest box I think you could fit in there is 26" x 30". However, that'd leave plently of wasted space if you have a few irregularly shaped items.

 

I need to haul a medium sized dog kennel that is 36" long, 26"H and 25" W.

Could someone include the length (depth) of the maximum size box that could be placed into the rear cargo area of a 2009 Caliber with the seats down.

Are the opening's max allowable box dimensions of 26" high by 30" wide applicable to the 2009 year model?

With the hatch door closed, how long can the box be:
26" H x 30" W x ____ " L ?

From my measurements, the box can be a max of 30"W x 27" H x 41"L with the rear seats down and hatch closed on my 09 SXT with the front seats most of the way back.
