Default gas mileage

Hey All,

Just made my second massive road trip with my R/T. First trip from 0 to 1250 kms, i averaged around 19 or 20 miles/g. Now i am pushing 5000kms, and my mileage is approx 26. so a bit of an improvement, but thats all highway driving. that's going by the electronic readout too, but when i use my crappy math skills, and figure it out from my fuel receipts, i am averaging around 550 kms/ 50L of gas. so not too bad, a little under 10L/100kms. (in Canada, i have no idea how to convert that to American mileage)
They say the breakin time is upto around the first oil change, and i am getting that on tuesday. so i'll keep it posted. other than that, this is so far the best car i have ever owned, and boy do i get complimented lots....sure beats my crappy old sunfire. LOL.

Default RE: gas mileage

On the way home from work today, I was getting 34MPG on average at 60 MPH. Even after I reset the MPG computer thingy, it still said about 34 on average. At some points it was as high as 36 MPG on the flat, but mostly it was around 34 MPG. I'm actually very impressed. I only have about 250 miles on mine. I have the 2.0 Liter with CVT. That makes me very happy.

Hmm, with my R/T (2.4L CVT2) doing highway I get about 26.4mpg average, and that's doing 62mph, occasionally it'll go up to 28, but that's kinda rare. strictly urban driving, I get 18-19mpg. I'd like to know how you're getting 34 and 36 mpg. There can't be that much of a difference between the 2.0 and the 2.4.

Except that yours is AWD, and weighs 300 lbs more. Also it has 18" wheels instead of 17". There really isn't that much difference between the 2 engines. They even use the same engine block, but its the differences between the SXT and R/T that make the differences in gas milage. Plus, if you use the Auto-stick, you'll use a lot more gas. The SXT doesn't have the auto-stick option. But its the AWD system and that extra weight that really makes the difference there. The very reason why I didn't choose to go with the R/T is I didn't want 18" wheels, and I didn't feel an extra 14HP (158 vs 172) was worth the less gas milage (24-26 R/T vs 30-34 SXT highway). About the only thing I'd get an R/T for is the AWD system.

BTW...I test drove and R/T AWD while I was waiting for my car to be built and my SXT Sport with the 2.0 liter actually feels like it has more power than the 2.4 liter. Its probably because of the AWD system and the extra weight the R/T has to carry around.
