Premium Unleaded Fuel
The normal engines are tuned to use 87 octane gasoline. Putting high octane does not make any difference, except producing expensive exhaust gases!!! And putting more profit in the oil company bank accounts...
comeing form some one who rebuild motors octane does make a differance if you can feel it or not and were you get the gas all gas is about the same but what they put in the gas makesthe differance some places put better additives in their gas than others places go ahead and use the low grade gas after 60,000 miles you should see what your valves look like covered incarbon build upi rebuilt my grandfathers neon motor it had over 300,000 miles hardly had any build up on it my buddys S-10 did not even have 150,000 on it and had 1/16 of an inch of carbon build up on it of corse he used the cheapest gas he could fined so you get what you pay for.
I don't think octane rating has to do with the gasoline quality and clean burning properties. Big oil companies sell the gas we find at cheap cornerstore gas bars, but this is not necessarily the same quality as the one we find at branded gas stations. Also, carbonized valves and spark plugs have something to do with incorrect mixture settings from carburation or fuel injection.
I must add that on my 07 cvt 2.0, that I have used 92/93 octane for the last 4-5 tanks. Now, I use my car a lot for company business, and they pay the gas plus mileage. So, I figured I'd try that out. I know that the mixtures are all computer controlled and that this certainly isn't a high performance engine, but I hope to keep this car for a while and want it in good running condition. So, if a cleaner burning fuel keeps it's engine insides cleaner, I'm all for it. And do the math here, it's about $2.50 USD per tank. That's just me.
Adding higher octane gas will not increase your performance one bit on a regular Caliber. In fact, in some cases it will make the engine run worse. You're only wasting your money. If the engine could run 91-98 octane, the manual would say so. It will also not make the engine last any longer either. These are all myths that some people fall into.
Unless you have a Caliber SRT-4 (higher compression) you won't notice any difference what so ever and you're not doing your engine any better good than using 87 octane. Using a higher octane gasoline doesn't mean you're getting better quality gas either. Thats another myth that people fall into. You can buy some really crappy 93 octane gas.
