2 Questions (1. Production and 2. Performance)
Hello all,
In the summer time I plan on purchasing a brand new Dodge Caliber R/T. I have two questions which I hope some of you can answer:
1) Does anyone have a rough idea about the how long it takes to get a new Caliber after you order it from the plant? I remember last summer it was something crazy like 3months. So if it's still like that I'd like to know so I can plan accordingly.
2) Is the R/T worth the extra price tag from the SXT? Does the AWD performe well?
Thanks

Sport tuned suspension and steering, disk brakes all the way round, bigger engine and the 6 speed auto stick. Guess it depends on your driving style if you need or want it. The AWD has worked flawlessly for me and was great fun in the snow.

Some people have waited 6 months(!) for their ordered Caliber. Whether 6 weeks is the average wait tho, I wouldn't know. For some reason Dodge thinks they don't have to produce as many Calibers as Neons that they used to pour out of the factories. Maybe its because they started making lots of new cars this last year.
We don't have lots of winter snow. I got my base SE Caliber for $14,000, so don't think the AWD is worth it. My MPG is way over what the R/T will get with 28.5MPG average, 32MPG over 4000 foot mountains, & 34.9MPG over flat slow highway.
From many reports,R/T people love their AWD...but not more than I love my SE.

With the spring & now summer mix gas, my average has risen to 29.4 MPG. In just the last tank of gas average mileagehas risen.1 MPG. I hope average MPG to be between 30 & 31 MPG in a couple months & most certainly by the end of my first year of ownership in late Sept. 2007.

Yeah, I have to agree with tupmeier, the SE is tops....simple, but 100% functioning, creakfree,& now at 29.4MPG & rising. No R/T probably has that average, & few SXT's w/CVTcan match it.
