I suggest you remove the transmission, remove the torque converter, remove the front pump, remove input drum assembly, then remove sun shell and check for any broken parts.

Transmission is going into limp in. 22mopar22 should have recommend to have the transmission scan for codes and check the cvi readings. And then perform a clutch test. You may end up going into the transmission anyway, Just can't take short cuts. How is the fluid level and condition?

don't need to, his explanation shows neutral condition into 3rd gear. that's an internal mechanical failured!!!! When a trans acts like a neutral, during the shifting process, there no sensor, cause. CVI values are going to be ok because when hard parts break the cvi isn't affected. teh only time I use CVI is when I get a slip or shutter. I'm finding I rarely use CVI's anymore. I reallly only use CVI after a rebuild and do a couple quick learns as a way to verify clearances are good. If CVI's are high then there's too much clearance or leak.

If the member is having a gear ratio error, Let say 3rd gear they should still have transmission scan for codes and perform a clutch test to verify that there is a problem inside the box. No one will learn how to diagnose the problem.

The postings here sound a lot like the problem with my Caravan tranny. I haven't fixed it yet but all the replies here help. My tranny is also newer(100K) and sticks in drive in the lower gear mode so it runs 3000 plus RPM at 45 mph.

I've read your posting Paintrlady and your post and the guy with the '95 Caravan have the same problem as my '93 Caravan. I put it in drive and I get up to 45 mph and it's doing 3000 rpm. I think mine must be an electric problem. The tranny only has 60K miles on it.

The transmission is going into limp in which is causing the high RPM. Just like the other member that went to a transmission shop to have the transmission controller check for codes. Sure you could replace the input and output sensor. But that may not fix the problem.
