Default The dreaded "Clunk"

As many before have experienced, my '03 with 35K miles started the front-end clunking. I took it to the mechanic who told me the links needed replacing at $51 a pop. Hesitant to pay parts and labor for this, I found this forum to see what else could be wrong. It appears the sway bar bushingmay beshot in addition to the links. So, a few questions...

1. Is there any safety concern with the bushing/links being worn and making noise?
2. What about long term effects with respect to replacement costs?
3. Are the link bushings replaceable or are they pressed into the link requiring specialized tools to replace?
4. Can I replace the sway bar bushings / links without a Chiltons manual?
5. Should I replace the bushings and link all at once or just start with the bushings and go from there?
6. Does anyone have any pictures of this area?
7. Of those who have performed this replacement on their own, how long did it take?

Thanks in advance for the help,
Mike
