1996 Caravan shudders when taking off
I have a 1996 caravan 3.8 liter engine, it shifts fine and drives fine but sometimes when you go to take off it shudders almost like when you go over those slow down strips in the road that warn when you are coming to a stop sign. That is the best way I can describe it. I was thinking maybe it's the torque converter but does anyone have any input on what this might be?
It could be several things--bad inner CV joints can cause a shudder as you describe, but sometimes an engine miss can feel the same way--are you getting a check engine light?
I have the same problem with my 1996 3.0. It shudders when I drive about 45 Mph. I got new tires and got an allignment done but nothing seems to help. I checked the tie-rods, which seem to be fine and I hear no clicking at all.
This problem is next on my list......

is it engine speed or vehicle speed related? Power brake the engine at a stop,if its an ignition problem you will feel it break up and back fire. If not, it's trans or drive line related. Bad inner cv joints wobble under hard launches, feels like a gallop sensation.
On your take off shudder, You could have loose or bad motor mounts or drive axles, most of the time the short axle will cause the shudding. Or there maybe a bad tire.
