how to tell if trany is in limp
I'm not so sure you have a problem. If you can drive at highway speeds and the engine isn't screaming, it is probably on high gear. What I would do is drive at about 65 mph on level ground and then move the shift lever down one notch--if it makes no difference, then it probably isn't in top gear, but if you feel a downshift and hear an RPM increase, then it probably is doing just fine.
tried moving the leaver, makes no difference. the engine isn't screaming too bad, guess that's cause of the 3 speed ratios. but like I said I cant feel any shift shock at all and accelerating is ridicules slow, same as second gear in my Toyota and Nissan. does any1 know what speeds second/third gears would enable.
I'm wondering if it may be starting in 2cnd or 3rd--that may account for the slow acceleration. Under light to moderate throttle, I would expect a shift into second at about 15 to 20 mph and into third at about 40. Normally that is very throttle dependent. At wide open throttle, it would be about 45 and 75.
Sounds like you have something stuck in the hydraulic circuit--possibly in the valve body or the solenoid pack. I'm over my head at that point, but rather than spending money on more parts, it may be worthwulie to find a trans shop and have them do some line pressure checks-those should help diagnose a problem and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
