1989 caravan
hello all,
new caravan owner.
well old caravan.
tranny goes to 2nd gear instead of 3rd when put it in d
position.
its a 4 speed and it should gofrom 4th to 3rd,
when i shift it from overdrive to drive. rite?

any ideas would be appreciated.

Your transmission is in Limp-in mode, Which means until the trans is fixed, you will only have 2nd gear. You need a scanner and ck the trans module for codes and post the codes. Some of us on thesite are techs and can help you.

sorry i may have explained wrong.
the tranny shifts up through gears fine.
just cant get it to run in 3rd gear (for pulling boat).
it goes to 2nd and stays therewhen i shift it to the d position.
the indicater has P/ R/ N/ OD/D / L
tranny may be different than origanol
3.0 V6 .
224000 miles.

Okay, the D will only up shift to 2nd gear, when you put the shifter into OD there is also an OD button on the dash. This will up shift into 3rd and 4th gears, If you push the OD button and the light comes on then you will up shift to 3rd gear. Hope this helps you. Leonard

i could not find the button
i could have a different year tranny in it.
if so can i find the wires or plug on tranny,
and put in an aftermarket button.
