<FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3>I currently own a 1988 caravan with 400,000 miles and I am trying to perform some modifications to said car . <IMG src=smileys/smiley18.gif border="0">It has been quite a ride so far and I want to perform some mods so the idiots who own the chevy's and ford's realize who is number one . I would like to improve the hootzpah of the little gem so I am not taken for a joke any help would be greatly appreciated </FONT></P>

Why not sell it and buy a new car caravansasleepr? You gotta be realistic, that caravan isnt gonna last that much longer... i dunno, just my imput...</P>

Wow that mileage is quiet high. You will probably need major engine work to support any modifications made. Have you done a compression test ?

 

Mods on an engine with mileage like that is like buying my grandma a thong bikini... it just don't go man!

But honestly, if you are dead set on this, let it breathe better... better exhaust, Cold Air Intake... etc. I'd do a routine maintainance, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil change, trans fluid change and gas treatment.

What serious mods were you looking at doing to an 88 Caravan with 400,000 miles? What sizeengine does your Caravan have?

Is the 400K miles just on the Caravans body or is it also on the motor? If the motor has not been rebuilt, then forget it unless you want it in the junkyard or unless you have alot of money to put into it.

 

yeah you're gonna hear everyone tell you not to put a dime into it that
you dont have to, myself included, but if you really want to, go right
ahead, but it doesnt seem like the wisest investment. vehicles with
miles like that tend to respond negatively to any changes, its like
everything is holding itself together, change one thing and everything
goes.

Ok here is the deal . My caravan has 400, 000 miles and counting , but I have no plans to ever get rid this van I bought her new in june 1987 , and I have thouroughly enjoyed it . I am a chrysler tech and I regularly service said vehicles . I appologize for the misunderstanding , however to date I have never taken the heads off this vehicle aside from regular service she still compresses out at 175psi in each cylinder I am aware of the investment aspect it will not be done for anything other than my own enjoyment . I will be either performing a rebuild to support the said improvements or performing a complete swap to rear wheel drive to accomodate a 5.2litre magnum engine I have complete w/ harness and controller the 5.2 l is equipped with the 360 X stamping heads with 2.02intake and1.76 exhaust the heads were hard to find as I had planned to place the magnum in a project car I once owned but due a divorce/seperation I gave the vehicle to my ex . so I have the motor . I am considering both avenues as possiblities . However the parts using the 3.0litre are scarce and quite hard to find as you probably know the 3.0 litre is a mitsu built motor now owned by chrysler . the 3.0 litre has a good start with its monoblock casting and built in girdle for the bottom end. does amyone know of any aftermarket companies that cater to the front drive domestic i.e. kcar design hence caravan and or the lh platform cars for the modern enthusiast . my whole idea is for shock values as I will keeping the exterior of the van stock right down to thechrysler wire caps. It is the LE model with fake wood trim and dark champagne paint so I know the poor shmuck in a corvette wont expect it .Well that is until I show him my tailights . This is not the first vehicle I have done as my first was a dodge spirit originally equipped with a 2.5l four it now sports a 3.8lLHseries engine and a whipple charger from a ford 3.8 with modification however I want to keep this chryslerALL chrysler the rear drive conversion will entail using alot A body parts of yesteryear as they shar pretty close to the same dimensions as this van with minor mods SO there you have it my intended plans, purpose and thought .
