My 02 Caravan suddenly wouldn't start today. When I turn the key, I get the dashboard lights coming up as normal. However when I try to start it, I get nothing but clicking noise. It had been driving fine. I'm assuming I need to replace the starter? Would appreciate your ideas and thoughts on how to replace the starter ... never done that. Thanks!

 

Have you tried to jump the battery? Clicking sounds could be low volts to starter, Dead or low battery. The battery might have the power to light the dash lights but not turn over the starter.

 

I agree with kdowg65. Check the battery power. You could have just left a door open or dome light on last night draining the power. Jump it and see if it starts. If you are sure you didn't leave anything on suspect a bad battery or an alternator that isn't charging. The easiest way to check is to see what the voltage is with a multimeter.If it is not at or around 12 volts with it not being started then you do have a weak battery. Once you do get it started see if you have around 14 volts or more, if so your alternator is working. If you don't have a meter go ahead and jump it and then once you get it started remove the negative battery, if the engine dies you have a bad alternator. Good luck.
