I have a 98 GC 3.8L.

How do I get the DTC that turned on the Service Engine Soon light without a code reader?

 

I don't know if this will work for a 98 GC, but in the past Chrysler used a key on-off-on-off-on (on, not start) within 10 seconds to display codes. The check engine light would blink, pause, and blink again. Count the blinks for the double digit codes. I think a 5-5 signaled the end.

I didn't get the On-off thing to work. Any other ideas?
It will do the dash diagnostic when I push the trip and reset and turn on the key but I don't get any DTC's that way.

If that doesn't work does anyone have any sudjestions as to a code reader that works well the this veh.

 

You can always run down to an Autozone. They will read them for free, just remember to write them down.
