Default HELP with 1997 V6 3Liter

The van smells like it is burning rich. Could it be the oxygen sensor? Or could it be something else. Also, my backup lights do not work. Replaced bulbs still did not work. Checked fuse and it was fine. Iam stumped. Please help me.

Have you checked the computer fault codes for possible diagnosis? See http://www.allpar.com/fix/80s-codes.html

Lights: Could be the switch or a bad ground ppssibly. Do you have a test light and a piece of electrical wire?

I will have to check the codes when I get off of work. How does the test light work? Is it something you have to buy at a auto parts store?

You could have a problem with the trans range switch ( TRS ) or an open curcuit to the back up lamps.

Had same problem with backup lights on my 97 3.0L Caravan in April.

After messing around with the shifter linkage for a couple of hours, trying to get the lights to stay on (they'd come on and then go out), I finally bought a new b/u light switch from the dealer and installed it.

The b/u lights are fine now.

The switch is on the front of the transmission, driver's side.

You will need a box wrench to get it out, I forget the size needed.

It is very easy to change.

Good luck.
