94 Caravan 3.3 Front Mount Index Info
I am replacing the motor mounts on a newly aquired 94 Caravan with a 3.3 liter engine. It has been eating driveshafts and I found the front mount torn. I believe the van was previously in an accident and I am not sure if the front mount was installed correctly. Can someone help me out as to how it should be relative to the bracket? The local dealer, Shuman Chrysler Plymouth in Walled Lake was less than helpful. I didn't buy the part there and had not had the van in for service, so the service advisor was pretty indifferent to helping me out.
Did it come with abracket or do need to install the rubber bushing? If it came with the bracket, it only goes on one way. Take the 15mm balance nut off and jack the corner of the trans and remove the 15mm bolt from the top. Then lower the trans down and remove the three bolts holding the bracket to the trans. If you need to install the bushing, you'll need a vise. The best way is to buy a mount with a bracket, cost more but easy to replace.
Thanks for the feedback. I figured out the vibration isolator/bushingposition. I had removed the bracket, degreased, wire brushed and repainted it so I couldn't see the position of the tabs. When I grabbed the box, I found that I had written the position on the box so I would not forget!!! After that I went to the left mount (transmission). I broke off one of the bolts in the bell housing and if the amount of corrosion on the broken piece is any indication the other bolt was broken during a previous repair.[>:] Theisolator looked fairly new. NowI know why the front mount was so trashed. Someone took advantage of my in-laws. They did not replace the front mount at all and made a mess of the other side. I'll have to talk to them and see if they have any receipts to tell me who the wizard was that repaired their vehicle and what he charged. Did I mention that when I pulled the right mount, I got three different assemblies with the same part number from Murrays Auto Parts. Two had the wrong size hole for the mount bolt and the third was obviously the wrong style. Somebody, somewhere doesn't want this thing back on the road.I really don't want to spring for a new transmisson for this pold beater. I can drill and retap the broken bolt, but I (me and JB Weld) may have to do some "creative maintenance" to repair the other one. Thanks again.
