1997 carvavan air question

Anyone know what could be wrong when your air conditioner bursts out a gust of hot air every once in awhile and then goes right back to putting out cold air again? (4 cylinder 1997 caravan)

You could have a mode door problem, and may want to have a/c ck for stored codes.
