Broken Cam?
I just got a 99 dodge caravan, the valve cover has been removed and only 2 of the valves are working on the front half of the motor.. its a 3.3 is it possable that the cam has broken or what?
The can bearings are an interference fit. That means they are held in place by the friction of the block on the bearing. If the bearing turns in the block this tolerance is destroyed. The bearings can be free to turn in the block and replacement of stock size bearings will only damage it further.
In some cases oversize bearings can be used to restore the interference fit between the block and bearings. This will require a total teardown and rebuild of the engine.I doubt this would be cost effective for a 97 minivan.A crate engine or shortblock would be the best way to go unless you can get an engine with a known history.
A broken camshaft could have done damage from one or more valves being open while the pistons go past top dead center. This causes holes in pistons and bent valves or pushrods.A compression test can reveal these problems.
