Hi, our 2003 caravan makes a knocking/rattle sound only in drive or reverse and at idle, seems to fade with accelleration but could be its just masked by engine noise. Definitely stops when you shift to neutral or park. Any experience out there ? Tran fluid is fine.

You may have a broken reaction plate for the reverse and overdrive clutches. Or a cracked flex plate. The transmission would need to be removed and inspect.

 

Good advice above but I would check and make sure the torque converter bolts are all tight first.
