Sludge in 3.8 engine
I have a 2000 Gr Caravan with the 3.8 engine. I have had the van since day one and have all of the receipts for oil changes, all of which have been at approx 3000 miles. It is in the shop now because it was using anti-freeze. It turns out that a head gasket and heads were bad. It has 66k miles and I have a Chrysler extended warranty. The shop people told me that the engine looks "very bad" and it "doesn't look as if the oil has been changed". I am in the car business and know of the need to change oil. I am very aware of the sludge problems with the 2.7 engine, but does anyone know of any problems with the 3.8?. Most, if not all of the oil changes have been at a GoodYear store and they are curently using Kendall oil. The Chrysler dealer suggested that maybe I need to use "better filters". This really has me stumped and concerned.
