Any info on changing the fuel filter on a 2003 Caravan Sport 3.8 liter? I haven't even looked at it yet but plan on changing it as part of preventitive maintenance at 72,000 miles. Thanks

 

You can do it,but it isn't fun. The filter is attached to a cross member just aft of the fuel tank, there are three lines with the squeeze together type releases. you need to get her in the air, slide under and take a look (two of the lines attach to the fule pump which is in the tank, but the ports are accessible (?) by hand. I did mine without lowering the fuel tank, but it might be easier to drop the tank a bit, use a floor jack with a piece of wood on the foot to distribute the load on the tank, relieve fuel pressure at the fuel rail (schrader valve) and take off fuel tank fill cover. Auto Zone has a good tutorial on their website (it is free but must register) and if you want to look at the turtorial, go to a 1996 caravan (procedure is the same, but they do not show as much detail for later years ). Questions, we got answers.

 

You also need to know if you have a long or short wheel base.

On a 4th gen wheelbase doesn't matter. They are all the same 01-03.
On a 3rd gen the wheelbase determines which filter. (long or short)
There are aftermarket filters available if you want to save some $$$

 

if i remember correctly the fuel filter is inside the tank on those years. The 96-00's had them on top of the tank
