Default P0406 Diagnostic Detection

Just on last Wednesday I bought my wife a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan and I already have a question about my new purchase.

~Today, my wife went for a drive and saw that the engine light came on. I ran the diagnostic on it and it came up with the error of P0406. After some time of searching the web to find out what this error is, I have found out that it is trying to tell me that the EGR sensor has failed/broke.

Now is this something that I can bring to the dealer and have them fix since its an emission problem and the van is so new or do I have to deal with this problem myself.... Hope its the latter of the two...

Thanks for your suggestions/comments...

EGR valve stuck in gum and crap either that or the tubing that goes to it......maybe guaranteed......

TKO intake cleaner and a vacuum pump and you can clean it yourself

Code might go away by itself after a few drive cycles if you clean it properly

Glad you got it fixed! I'm having the same issue right now with my 2005. I'm trying to buy an EGR valve for mine and I need to know if I have "Option Code (XZZ)". What on earth is that!! I've run the VIN and there's no mention of it. Anyone have a clue? I sure don't!

I read online that "XZZ" will be in the VIN if the vehicle has that option code - can this be true? Doesn't sound right to me but I really need to buy an EGR valve asap. My plates expire tomorrow and I can't pass the Ohio e-check with my check engine light on. Help!

Sorry, I have no idea what that means. I will try to do a little research for you. When I bought my EGR they just asked for the size of the motor. It was a special order part and it took a couple of days to get...

From what I can find, it seems that the option would be in the VIN. If its not, then get appropriate EGR valve. They arent too hard to difficult to change. I got mine from AutoZone and they were about $25 cheaper than anywhere else.

Thanks for the help. The 2005 has 2 different types and I've been told 3 different ways to tell what option code it has: On door jamb stickers, in VIN, on egr valve. I'll have to check the valve for markings but I'm guessing the vin or door jamb to be the correct way to tell. It's looking like my does not have the XZZ option which is good - it's the cheaper valve!
