Automatic - P-R-N-D-3-L, how to drive?
Hi again.!!
focused on my caravan 93, automatic and 3.3 ....
I've noticed some people even my brother, drive it like "manual changes". In general I only use D, "drive" and everything is ok, I have not been in hills or something to use 3 or L, the boocklet owners manual indicates it is apropiated to down or hills with engine brake.
The "others" sometimes when are driving n normal conditions in city, they make the change from D to 3 or L or something so, 3 to D.. .. whatever.
does this affect the gearbox in some way? or is just "nothing different" when apply 3 or D to 3 change ...
the 3 or L can be applied or used to going UP lonh hills?? or high some hard Hills going up??

It won't hurt if you are manually switching between them, if that is what you are asking. The only time that I ever used to switch manually like that though was if I was towing something or hauling alot of weight and going up hills. This would keep the vehicle in a power gear to get up the hill easier.
Just normal driving though, I would just keep it in drive.
There are some truck owners that say they will drive the trucks in 3rd never to let it get into over drive while in the city since the vehicle will never get up to a hwy speed to really utilize the gear and keep it from shifting in and out, but here we are talking about a caravan that is alot light and more efficient in that area.

do you say.. some truck owners drive in 3 to don't let the gearbox shiftup or ****down ?? I've drove in 3 and I feel the engine works "more" and the changes are very smooth. I imagine driving in 3 spends more gas. Sorry :P but I'm newebie yet
I let the transmission shift when it wants to with the lever in the "D" (overdrive) position.
The transmissions are fragile enough in these vans without playing with them.I'd leave it in overdrive unless you were going downhill and wanted to take some load off the brakes.A good idea by the way.

I agree "chopper"... sincerly I've noticed (at least on my Caravan) works so fine in overdrive D, is not a caravan to demand power and speed and impulse . . at least the mine works like a Bus... like these modern tourism buses Volvo smooth, relaxed, soft, easy.
