97 Caravan will start but not run - no dash display
Hello everybody,
This happened once before and it fixed itself before I found out what was wrong.
The van will start fine, but it runs about 2 seconds and shuts off. The only thing I noticed this time and the time before is the dash display - odometer and shift indicator etc. does not come on. Usually it will roll the digits when starting but now it is just blank. I checked all the fuses and underhood relays etc. and found nothing wrong.
The last time it did this we checked for codes and found none this time my friend borrowed the code reader so right now I'm stuck.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Frank

OK, thanks I did see tose posts for the blanked gauges and I'm in the middle of that fix BUT I do not see any problems with the pins, they all look fine. I am going to hit them with the soldering iron antway so we'll see.
I don't see really how the blank cluster will keep it from running.
Like I mentioned it will start but only for a few seconds then it dies.
I'll update the post when I finish.
Thanks,
Frank

OK, the pins looked fine, I looked with a magnifing glass and could not see any issues. I did however locate the black and green wire pin, it is the lower right on the plug and lower left on the circuit board. I did hit it with a dab of solder, put it back together and what do you know, it worked. Displays and tach etc. and it started and seems to run OK.
I'm a little bit leary about the fix but it did work.
Thanks for the help, hope this helps somebody else, took me about an hour and only 2 dash screws left over.
Thanks again,
Frank
