Default 2001 Caravan rack and pinion installation.

I am replacing the rack and pinion on a 2001 Dodge Caravan.
I've been able to unbolt it but I am not sure how to detach the spline on the R/P from the steering column.
I am sure it has a metal clip that retains the connection but it is covered by a boot seen from the underside of the car, and it is inaccesable from that position.
Do I need to access the clip from the passenger side, under the steering wheel?
Thanks, Brad

Remove the cradle plate. Remove bolts from rack. Lower rack enough to get to coupling. Drive out drift pin to disconnect from rack. It's all done from the bottom.

Rick,
Maybe I am missing a removable plate that limiting my access to the pin from underneath.
Im a big guy and there is no possible way I can get even a hand in there , let alone do something like drift a pin out.
But I'll get under there and see about maybe I'm missing something.

Shelby,
When you did it from the inside.... did you have to cut the boot?
Did you have to remover the sterring column?
Thanks so much for the replys!

I was wondering if I was over my head here, but since you folks have done it I'm sure I will be able to complete the job.
The bad thing is I've got a new teenage driver that is breathing down my neck to get this car!!!!!
