Wink dodge caravan transmission problems

I have to get a transmission replaced. My trusted mechanic says that the cost will be about $2800. including labor (for rebuilt transmission). My son says that is way overpriced. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Thats not a bad price, normal is about 3500. Reman transmission run anywhere from 950.00 to 1400.00 dollars.

I rebuild transmissions with a 12m/12,000 miles and charge $1500. That's the going price around here. I see reman transmissions on Ebay for under $800. Check into a reman center like Jasper. A few years ago, you could buy a reman trans right from chrysler for under $1000 with 3/36 warranty plus labor.

I got an estimate for $1100 dollars to cure the bumpshift problem.
You might see about a rebuild without a warranty for less money. The figure dropped to $800 if they just replaced the parts that actually were worn and not install the upgraded parts. That rebuild still has a thirty day warranty.

For anyone planning on keeping their van, the most expensive transmission rebuild would be a cheap rebuild without all the updates/improvements. Same old story: Pay a little more now or a lot more later.

OR

Pay a little now and again and again and again etc

The majority of the rebuilds i do price ranges $5 - $300 in parts depending on the failure. Shop rate to r&r is under 4hrs (I get them done in under 2hrs) rebuild time 8hrs. (which I've never exceeded 5hrs) So if you figure 12hrs max labor @100.hr = $1200 labor. Then they'll charg full list price on parts estimate $600 === in total this should be $1800 rebuild tops. I do them for $1200 with 12/12 warranty. haven't had one come back yet!
