Default fuel injection

hey all i was wondering if anyone on here would be able to tell me how much work is involved in converting my 1986 2.2L carberated caravan to fuel injection, like i know that i need to change the computer as well as most of the wiring and add some sensors but is there anything eles.

There is soo much i'm sure once you knew everything involved, you'd just get another van. You would need to change intake manifold, all the underhood wiring, computer system, rewire into the interior, change the gas tank with an EFI unit and sooo much more. it's not that it can't be done, however in the world of deminishing returns, you wouldn't gain enough good for all the cost and effort it would take.I personally have convertered these older vans to V-6 efi and 4cyl efi turbo conversion, however it took many weeks of effort and a lot of research to properly configure all the wiring changes needed.

i do realize the work involved but i still would like to do it as the van has been in the family for a long time and i would like to keep it around but the carb is just too incooperative. i knew i would need a new manifold but i have an 94 shadow with everything on it to do the job exept the new sending unit that i need but i have that too from my other van that was 6cyl fuel injected. i was just wondering how hard it would be to do.

Hard is a relative term. for me it's easy but very time consuming. I can't state the level of difficulty for you as I do not know your mechanical level of competencebut if you're determined to take on this task, you'd be way better off going with a V-6. The milage difference is minimal but the performance is double. using shadow parts is a bad idea because none of the wiring will be compatable with the van. You're in for a HUGE task to reconfigure all the wiring. When I converted a 1984 over to efi, I had to pull the whole dash and re-wire everything inside and out to get it all working to OEM spec. I could have just hacked the thing together, but I wanted everything to work properly and look original

ok well i am very competent at doing mechanical work, i don't mind ripping into the dash as the original oner took out the 6cyl it had in it and did a hack job puting in the carberated engine so half of the dash does not work right now anyway. as for the engine itself i prefer the 2.2L engines.

hmm now you're not being truthful. 1986 NEVER came with a v-6!!! actually in 86 they had the 3L 6cyl as well as the 3.3L. do your research. and i was being truthfull the original engine blew before my family got it. when it blew the owner at the time replaced the engine with a 2.2L carberated engine, however he did not get it running as he had no idea what he was doing. At that point my grandfather bought the van and got it to run, but now the carberator is giving nothing but problems and if i am going to clean it i wanted to know what all was involved in just converting it as to never need to worry about the carb again,

Dude, you are SOOOO wrong. don't insult me... 1987 was the first year for the 3.0. 1990 was the first year for the 3.3. 1988 was the first year for the 2.2 to have EFI in the vans. you are not going to win a technical argument, you've shown several times that you really don't know. Provide the 8th and 10th digit of your VIN and I'll help you identify what the van really came with. Prove your statement about a 2.2 being hacked in when the 'v-6' was changed with a posting a picture. No proof, then we'll all know that you're untruthful To answer your question: what is involved with changing carburation to efi. Change the intake assembly, change the entire engine wiring harness, install computer for efi, change all the sensors on the engine, change the fuel tank assembly. spend about 100hrs rewiring the entire vehicle. that's it.

all that inof is rite on 87 first 3.0efi, 86 no v-6 at all. idk but yalls seam way otta wack.
