'05 Caravan cut out...while driving, what gives?
I was driving about 60 m/h when all of a sudden , I lost power in the gas pedal, the rpm and odometer gauge when to zero...and I coasted to the curb...all with 2 little ones in the back, quite unnerving.
Interestingly, the van was still running when I got to a stop, so was radio, power stering, but no accelerator..
I took the key out, put it back in and off I was for another hour to my destination.
I took it to the dealer...they did a diag of some sort, could not find anything had to pay them $100 for the useless diag.
Made the return trip of 120 miles home, no issues the next day.
I am obviously worried this is going to happen again with my wife and little ones driving...What is my next step anyone?
The dealer is proving useless, damn its their van that I bought....The service mgr said to switch to high octane for the next two tanks...but why, the van did not stall, it just stopped going..
I very much welcome your comments., thanks
John

Hi John
Let get this right, The cluster went dead and the gas pedal wouldn't accelerate. But engine was still running and you had power steering. I have seen the cluster go dead, but in most cases its stays dead and will take the PCI bus system down and cause the van to have no start problem. But you'll not having that problem, you may have a loose connection. 2nd gas pedal. Check the pedal make sure the carpet is not rolled up under the pedal and then ck the throttle cable and clean the throttle body.

Hi Master Tech, thanks for the quick response.
It all happened so fast, not sure if the whole dash cluster went dead.
Their is not carpet stuck behind the accelerator, i will have to look into the throttle info you mentioned.
Also, I the next morning I remember pushing the remote start on my 3rd party unit and the car's panic alarm went off.?
thanks John

I just bought a 2010 Grand Caravan SXT in September and while driving along the highway in the middle of a 3 hour trip - the same thing happened to me. I thought it was weird - I took the key out and started it again and I continued on my trip without any problems. Figured it would be a one time thing but the next day while driving to pick my child up from school the same thing happened.
Did you ever find out what caused this?
