Help 2001 Caravan tranny problem...
92dak5.24x4 is right, you need to scan for transmission codes in the TCM. This needs to be done before you can replace any parts. Racersteve I don't know what you know transmissions, but you can't just go throwing parts at a car/van. If you guys want to argue, take it to the PM.
I think we need to be open to differant points of veiw. Lets take a step back for a min.
We have a 9 year old van that's worth maybe 4-$5000, it dosn't run so it's worth maybe $2000 now.
The owner takes it to the experts at the dealer and is told something inside must be broken and it needs a trans.
Is the van worth putting $3-$3500 into??
Clearly he either got a parts changer or just a tech with dollar signs in his
eyes. He could try another dealer and get a good tech like one of you who
would figure out what's wrong with his car. Or he will get the same answer
from a lesser mechanic.
He could try a trans shop but that's a roll of the dice too IMO.
The last thing he could do is come to a public forum looking for help,
that's were we are now. He asks if there is anything he can try w/o
dropping the trans to fix his car, hence my answers.
What's the worst thing that can happen, say he screws the pooch and
totally messes up the trans. So he's a couple hundred in the hole and his
car still dosn't move. Or he might get lucky fix his car and be a happy
camper.
What you guys are saying is right, the best way to fix this is to take it to
a expert. That's if he can find one and he want's to spend the money.
I am offering options is all, like I say he might get lucky..
As far as my experiance, I build these tranny's for drag race FWD cars.
We are still working out some bugs but it seems to be a good trans, it's
held up to over 600hp in a light 2350 pound Neon so far. We don't use
a factory TCM because we can't tune it the way we need to. Overall it
seems to be a good option to the 31TH for racing. So far the best pass with one of these is a 10.0@141mph.
Merry Christmas!
