1996 Grand Caravan won't idle
Since the weather has turned colder my Caravan won't idle. Ther have been a couple of mornings it has been around -12celcius and when I start the van it surges during idle, after a few minutes the idle drops off and the van stalls. The van is still drivable if you use two feet but when you come to a stop you must keep one foot on the accelerator to keep the rpm's up. Under normal driving you would not know anything was wrong until you lift off the accelerator. After driving and hour to work I shut the van off waited a minute and restarted and everything runs fine and idles fine, this is the second time this has happened when the temperature drops off. When the temperature is above -5 celcius everything runs fine and there are no problems. I am getting no engine codes and no engine light during any of the problem times.
You need a SCANNER so you can see what the data stream is showing. No codes doesn't mean there is no problem. Could be a lot of tother things and if you're up to just throwing parts at it, then here's what you need to look at replacing: Any/all sensors, Idle air control motor, PCM, egr valve and related items, Find if there are any vacuum leaks, brake booster problem/leak, and so much more
