Default 2001 Grand Caravan vibration

Hi guys,

2001 Grand Caravan 86000 miles...I have this low freq vibration over 60 MPH minimunly shakes the whole van. I thought it might be the right side CV so I replaced the Axle today. the outer CV was wearing. When I installed the axle I noticed that the tranny has slop in it where the inner axle slips in.... Could this be the source of the vibration. There was a slight inprovment in the vibration over 60...Below you don't notice anything..

Yes the tranny makes noise when up put it in drive...click clunk....I have checked all the engine mounts...tie rod ends, sway bar links...etc..all the tires have been balanced. The engine runs smoothly..

Could it be the tranny causing the vibration???

Yea... i drive it at 55 and everything is fine..

There's dozens of things it could be. All overdrive transmissions make a buzing clicking noise as it is put in drive. Where does the vibration feel like it's coming from... the seat of your pants or in the steering wheel? I've even seen some rust fall behind the brake rotor and hub on a tire rotation cause a vibration.. this is just one example of things that can happen. Have you rotated tires just to see if the vibration changes?

Default 2001 Grand Caravan vibration

From the seat of my pants...a slight vibration in the steering wheel...you can feel the vibration through the whole car above 60...all the struts and shocks were just replaced. This one has me boggeled...I bought this car from my unlce because he can't drive anymore... The tires were balanced and rotated after I first noticed the problem...it is a very small vibration..like when a train rumbles the ground as it passes...It gets erritating on long drives...

Take your van to a tire shop that has a 'road force' wheel balancer. these will find or eliminate the tire(s) being the problem. Then there's wheel bearings and much more. The way I'd fix it is using an electronic ear with sensors at each wheel then tune to each channel inorder to determine the exact spot. GM has a very nice NVH tool for doing this.

while driving at 60 when u feel the vibration shift it into neutral if the vibe goes away its in the driveshafts to wheels if its still there in neutral its likely in the tranny or motor

Default Vibration

my caravan 2002 sport shakes above 70-75 MPH. When i put it in neutral at that speed, vibration goes away. When I push on accelerator in that position, no vibration. According to you guys it looks like it is it is drive shaft.
Q1 : could it be something else
Q2: how can i pin down to right or left hemi shaft, Or should i go ahead and change both of them.

Default Same Problem

I have this same issue. Car vibrates above 60 but gets exponentially worse at 75. New struts and shocks, tires balanced and aligned. Going to do the nuetral test tonight. I'll be back with the results. If you know the answer to the previous post it would help me as well. Please post.
