Default P1698

Hi guys, I have a 2000 Caravan 3.0 with the infamous p1698 problem, I searched on numerous forums and tried many parts, but without any luck.

Heres the situation.

Check engine light on, P1698 only.
speedo, shift indicator, gas guage, etc dont work. It moves a lil when I initially run the car, but within a second, it goes back dead. As for the shift indicator, prior to engine start (key on), it works completely fine. But once the engine runs, shift indicator stays in the park even when shifting and shuts off about 4 second after engine starts. odometer shuts off the same time as shift indicator.

FYI, car drives completely fine.
Rear wiper, rear defrost, a/c button dont work even car is not started(I read it is related to the p1698 problem).

Heres what I have done, replaced TCM, ECM, BCM, cluster, check bus wire between tcm and ecm (ok).
I know one of the local wrecker, so I was able to lend these parts to try.

But any suggestions as to what else it may be or what I should look into?

Or if theres any other specialty forum I can check, please post, thank you.

I had a bad connection within the ignition switch do these symptoms but no code. I've never had this code befor so I really don't know it as an infamous problem. If it was me working on it, I'd use a real scanner in transmission mode and see what the tcm is reading and doing.

So are u saying that in your case your ignition switch is not contacting properly, and not giving power to the cluster and the accessories, but runs the car fine.

Default P1698 intermittent on '03 Caravan

I am seeing this code on my '03 caravan. When the fault occurs, tranny switches to 2nd gear (limp mode), boxes show up on all PRND31, and Speedometer jumps to zero. Today I was doing 70MPH on the highway (legal speed in my state) in the rain... I was lucky I did not get hit from behind as van slows a lot in 2nd gear at highway speeds - a very unpleasant experience.

During 'limp' to dealership, the van corrected itself and started shifting properly. All dashboard funtions were restored to normal, including gear indication. This is the second such event, and I am sure of my observations. Both instances were either foggy, or rainy weather conditions. The dealer said to bring it back for DRB scan when it repeats.

I'd like to know what pins/wires carry the CCD Messages so I can check those connections/wires. Also, what is the location of the TCM? ...on the front of the tranny (near the solenoid packs)?

Thanks in advance!

The TCM is also part of the PCM. They are located inside the left fender, behind the headlamp.
