Weird Intermittent Wiper Problem - 98 Caravan
I have a 98 Dodge Caravan Sport, 3.3L with 159,000 miles on it. The weirdest thing is happening to the intermittent wipers when you try to run them. First off, if you turn them on they will not run most of the time. If you leave them on an intermittent setting, they might come on depending what time of day it is, full moon, etc. They will run on the standard low and high, no problem there. If you try and turn the wipers to the off position from an intermittent setting, they want to continue running. The only way to turn them off is to turn it to the lowest intermittent setting, then they will turn off. Then ususally you have to wait a little bit and turn it to the true off position and they stay off. Sometimes when you turn the car off and they are in the lowest intermittent setting they will run just once then stop. Also, I do not know if this is related, but sometimes the tach and spedometer gauges do not function unless you turn the car off and restart or beat the dash. Maybe the part should be another topic? Any help with the wiper issue would be appreciated!
There were many issues with the multifunction switch which is the wiper / turn signal switch on the column. You would need a scan tool to check it out but that is a good place to start. The cluster issues are probably the printed circuit board on the rear of the cluster, also a common issue.
