I have a 96 grand caravan 3.8l and starting a couple days ago when I crank the van it starts but then immediately dies, if I press on the gas and keep giving it gas when i crank it it stays running until i let off the gas and it immediately dies. I noticed in the engine bay that one small vacuum hose is broken, my parking lot is too small for a tow truck, I just want to get it to run long enough to make it to the shop, any ideas?

Fuel pump taking a crap. Try hitting the bottom of the tank with a hammer a few times in the middle to give it an attitude adjustment. Sometimes they will start pumping better for a while then.

 

Change the fuel filter lately?

 

You may have a bad IAC.

 

plug the vacuum hose/ tape both ends. If its a weak fuel pump try and add some gas. Often a full tank will run fine. Is the tank below half a tank or less? IAC is pretty easy to replace and normally don't cost too much.

Does this mean other than stalling at idle, there are no other symptoms or indications? A check engine light?

after reading on another forum about the anti theft system being an issue i pushed the 'panic' button on my remote and then turned it off and right after that the van started right up! I'm still gonna take it to the shop to get the vacuum hose looked at. thanks for all your suggestions!
