Default clean rubber boots?

I noticed that the drivers drive shaft boot and also the passenger power steering boot both have an shiny appearance, in that they had oil rubbed on them at some point, I inspected the boots pulling an looking them over hard, no tears, also they are not wet or dripping

I would like to clean them so that if they do start leaking/or are leaking I can spot it easier

was thinking soap and water, but not sure if it would work

don't want to damage the rubber boots

any suggestions,

Thanks, you guys are great

Drive to a self clean car wash and use the high pressure nozzle with soap and hot water and steam clean the drive axle boots.

guess my rack did start to leak,
the drivers side has not changed, but the passenger side started to leak some, as did the steering gear

probably could last for a while now, only looses 1/4 qt every few weeks

good thing I still have an aftermarket warrenty that fixed
