Always be sure to first unhook the negative battery cable, then you can safely remove the B+ wire at the starter.

If the check engine light is on, you should be able to get a code, get the code and let us know what it is and we can tell you what it's for.

you turn the ignition on and off 3 cycles ending in on and it should list the codes in the odometer. P and 4 numbers.

i just did 3 cycles of the off position to the position right before cranking. no code. i just see the P for park, and my mileage (which isnt 4 numbers). am i doing it wrong? haha sorry

*i also did a search and tried this method

"You can check for the codes yourself by using the key on/off method. Turn the key on, off, on, off, then on and watch the CEL flash. It will flash once, pause, twice, pause, then count the number of flashes following each pause. That will give you a number. For instance, just did mine, flashed 1,2, 3,1, 5,5. The 12 is always the beginning, the 55 means it's done. Whatever's in the middle is your trouble code. If you do this and post the code, one of us will tell you what it means and help you troubleshoot ideas to fix it. You could also take it to most any auto parts store and they can put a scanner on it and tell you what the code is."

the CEL or SES light just turned off and never flashed or came back on.

you turn the key to the run position so,......run, off, run, off, run. If there are codes in the PCM, it will list them in the odometer, so instead of mileage, it will have P and then 4 numbers. The sequence has to be done in under 10 seconds.

I do it from underneith and have no problem seeing both of the bolts. you have to use a wrench, ratcheting prefered, or a long 3/8 extension and a swivel socket over top of the solinoid pack
