The PCM grounds the relay when it see's input from the cam and crank sensors. You can ground the relay but with the inputs missing, it won't do any good. Is the check engine lamp on? Did you check for codes?

P1388 is Auto Shutdown Relay control circuit, it either sees a short or an open in the control wire to the PCM.

My 2003 is the same way. Is this a known issue with these vans? I haven't seen anything about a recall or any TSB's on this issue. Do either exist?

BTW... Tizzy1 ya'll are great about being attentive and very detailed. I can greatly appreciate what ya'll do here.

Thanks, I checked and nothing for TSB's or any official document on the issue. Must be "one of those things".

Question diagram clarification

can anyone clarify the wiring diagram for me? What does the C1, C2, etc. mean? What about the tiny numbers? I was thinking that perhaps the "C" stood for "connector", and the tiny numbers were the pin locations of the wire in that connector. I hope I'm wrong, otherwise I think I have a real mess of a short somewhere.
Thanks in advance for your help.

C is for the C connector. the module probably has more than 1 connector (plug)

but for me, I'd just look at the wire colors and pin numbers. the way I see it is if the pin # wire color doesn't match, I must be on the wrong connector.

so are the small numbers on the diagram the pin location?

the PCM has 4 connectors, neither are marked as "C1", etc. and there are no pin markings on any of the connectors at the PCM. The connectors at the fuse box have pin number "1" marked. The connector with the brown/white wire has 2 brown/white wires and both have +/-12V key off and on and continuity with the 1 brown/white from the fuse box. Could this be my problem? How do I know which br/wt wire at the PCM is supposed to have continuity with the fuse box?
