Default Transmission

Hello all, thanks for reading.

I was parking my 1998 dodge grand caravan put the gear shifter into park, was getting out of van and it rolled lol.

so as of now i have to put emeregency brake on when i park.

all gears work fine, transmission fluid doesn't smell burnt or anything like that.it shifts fine as well.the van still starts while in park.i was doing some reading ans it says dodge caravan has a known thing sorta like this.but this van doesn't stop rolling.

the van has 300 thousand kms on it.i just got the van for moving stuff around like 4 days ago.

hmm nothing else to really tell, the van drives like it is new,no rough shifts no hi idleing..

any ideas please let me know Thanks

If it's rolling, the parking pawl isn't engaging. Probably have to drop the pan and maybe the valve body to see if it came unhooked from the lever. Don't know if this picture will help you but can't hurt.

Welcome to DF
How far does the van roll before you need to set the park brake? If it rolling and doesn't stop in park, the picture that tizzy has post is the park pawl. The pin may have broken or fell out, causing the park pawl not to engage.

Default thanks fro the pic

it just rolls nd rolls,so the pin thing seems to make sense.
If a person was a noob,on a scale of 1 to 10 what kind of skills would doing this require?

and would i need a hoist,or would stands do?

P.S thanks for your replys.

A hoist would be better, but you can use jack stands too. scale would be a 5.
