1996 Grand Caravan service engine light
I have a 96 Grand Caravan. Service engine light has come on. The codes I am getting from it are 31 and 32. I am having trouble finding what they mean. I can not find a correct list of codes for this vehicle i am hoping someone can help me. Thanks
<LI>Code 31-Evap purge solenoid circuit-an open or short detected in the duty cycle purge solenoid circuit.
<LI>Code 31-Evap purge flow monitor failure-Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation.
<LI>Code 31-Evap leak monitor small leak detected-A small leak has been detected by the leak detection monitor.
<LI>Code 31-Evap leak monitor large leak detected-leak detection monitor is unable to pressurize EVAP system, indicating a large leak.
<LI>Code 31-Leak detection pump solenoid circuit-leak detection pump solenoid circuit fault (open or short).
<LI>Code 31-Leak detection pump switch or mechanical fault-leak detection pump switch does not respond to input.
<LI>Code 31-Evap leak monitor pinched hose found-plug or pinch found between purge solenoid and fuel tank.
<LI>Code 32-Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system failure-required change in air/fuel ratio not detected during diagnostic test.
<LI>Code 32-EGR solenoid circuit-open or short detected in the EGR transducer solenoid circuit.
<LI>Code 31-Evap purge flow monitor failure-Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation.
<LI>Code 31-Evap leak monitor small leak detected-A small leak has been detected by the leak detection monitor.
<LI>Code 31-Evap leak monitor large leak detected-leak detection monitor is unable to pressurize EVAP system, indicating a large leak.
<LI>Code 31-Leak detection pump solenoid circuit-leak detection pump solenoid circuit fault (open or short).
<LI>Code 31-Leak detection pump switch or mechanical fault-leak detection pump switch does not respond to input.
<LI>Code 31-Evap leak monitor pinched hose found-plug or pinch found between purge solenoid and fuel tank.
<LI>Code 32-Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system failure-required change in air/fuel ratio not detected during diagnostic test.
<LI>Code 32-EGR solenoid circuit-open or short detected in the EGR transducer solenoid circuit.
First thing you need to do is update the PCM because the software in your PCM with not run a evap test.Ck all your hoses for cracks, if they okay then you could have LDP pump or vent valve that are bad.
One other suggestion. I had a small vacuum leak detected in my 97 caravan. CEL came one and stayed on. I went over everything, all the lines, could not see anything. Then I thought about the fuel filler tube, which, in my search for leaks, I noticed that mine was very, very rusty. On one weekend, I removed the fuel filler tube. Wired brushed the rust off, acid treated with rust mort. It was peppered with small holes and a few larger ones. Coated it with POR15, re-installed it, and the light went off and stayed off. That was three years ago and before they made the aftermarket fuel filler tubes. OEM from the dealer was $344, junk yard find was $50, and the aftermarket (now) $70. So check out that fuel filler tube as a strong possibility.
