additional info....the air blows from the lower 2 rear vents in the bulkhead near the 3rd row no matter what the rear overhead control is dialed to > up, mix, lower.

I would ck the hvac system for codes first. Are asking about the rear upper vents or the front and rear? Because if its the rear vents, then you may have a broken rec door in the rear housing.

just the rear a/c. front is fine. i'll check for codes. the door makes sense since the lower rear blows no matter what the rear a/c control is set to. thanks. i'm guessing i'll need to pull off the large trim piece to start.

So you have auto temp, good. You need to take off the rear quarter trim and remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the rear housing to the body to access the actuators. You should have power on one wire and ground on the other when trying to move the actuator with the control head. Most of the time, the actuator shorts out and blows a driver in the control head so you have to replace both.

well i went out there tonight and to start i disco'd the battery to give the ecu brain a flush. i tried the controls from the front console as well as the rear overhead. all appears well when the front is to auto & the rear is set to auto. upper & lower rear vents blow at a temp corresponding to the set temp. now, when front console is set to rear control and using the rear control *****> when set to floor only=all good. when set to overhead only= all good. when the rear control is set to mix, the floor is blowing constantly and the upper vents blow air in almost a wave or breath like cycles. i know, i happy it's back to this, believe me. has anyone noticed the pulse like air flow from the upper vents when sent to mix? thanks again.

Could be how it is. The floor duct is three feet long and very large. The ducting that runs along the headliner is small with lots of joints. I assume the air takes the path of least resistance.
